The Monkey Hits the Road for Tour of Utah

The Wasatch Powder Monkeys team is ecstatic to follow the Nation’s toughest stage race through Utah – and to see the likes of Leipheimer, Hincapie, Mancebo and Louder .  The Monkey will be sure to get world class autographs. . . yup we’re cycling roadies!  We’re especially excited about Stage 5 that starts in Park City – home to the Monkey – to take on the Wasatch mountain range!  We’ll be right at the finish line. . . so we’ll be super  close to the action.  If you check out Stage 5, look for us.

We’ll be demoing the SmartCrossbars™, our evolutionary rack system, getting feedback from the crowd on colors and fit kits you want to see, and of course giving out Monkey BLING so that anyone can show off their inner monkey for adventure.  Getting crowd feedback will be a highlight – we’re here to help you get to the trail, mountain, or road for adventure easier, cheaper, and faster!  So it’s all about you, what you need to transport and store your equipment, and what you want for hot colors that will make your ride look even better as you save on gas mileage.

The Monkey, Triathletes and Training

It’s a good thing monkeys like tropical heat! Wow, it was a hot weekend in Boulder, but the event was fantastic and the racing was great. Even with temps in the 90’s, spirits were high, and tri-fever was definitely in the air for Boulder’s Rohto IronMan 70.3 inaugural! The Monkey spent three days talking with folks who were just PSYCHED for the challenge. They were also PSYCHED to see the SmartCrossbars™ roof rack system in action! Gearing up For Product Release

Wasatch Powder Monkeys is close to production with the final pieces in motion. . . Materials purchased, initial colors selected, and a production schedule falling into place.  Look for initial shipments by the beginning of September.

We’ll be opening the web store for presales next week – be sure to bookmark the site and come back to receive a special Best Friend of the Monkey discount.  This will be a substantial but limited time offer for you SmartMonkeys who know how to get a great deal! Is it a Bird, Is it a Plane?

Not just talk, it’s time for some serious action! The last month has been busy for the Monkey, swinging back and forth between materials vendors and the SmartXBars design team. The monkey recently picked up 500 lbs of extruded aluminum – that’s a lot of recycled cans. As one of the first inputs to the manufacturing process, the extruded aluminum really excited the Monkey and fellow outdoor sports enthusiasts.

As for the bird, or plane you see here – that’s the beginning of outdoor sports enthusiasts’ lives made easier – and their ‘fun’ time outside being extended. This bird, my friend, is one of the Monkey’s first endcaps!

With fabrication complete, we shot the parts color – today we’re going with orange. Tomorrow, we’ll let you pick out the color!

Equal Access for All!

The Monkey is all about equal and easy access for everyone to the outdoors, so the Multiple Sclerosis Society is a natural fit. About 400,000 Americans and 2.5 million people globally have MS.  The majority live a normal lifespan, but many struggle with increased limitations over time.

But just because MS creates hurdles doesn’t mean the outdoors are off limits.  Organizations such as the National MS Society and the National Ability Center located in Park City, Utah constantly strive to make this equal and easy access a reality.

The Monkey will be supporting the Bike MS Utah event in Logan, Utah this weekend (June 25 – 27) and will bring the SmartCrossbarsTM system along.  Come take a look at how easy SmartCrossbarsTM make it to get outside!  And, if you’re feeling particularly lucky, you may go home with a certificate for a free set of these crossbars through the Bike MS Utah raffle!

The Monkey is coming to the Teva Games

The Monkey, what monkey? The Wasatch Powder Monkey, that’s who! Part mythical monkey and part free spirit carried in the genome of every single adventurer; the name came from those die hard, storm-day dawn-patrollers who are first on the mountain packing charges and blasting cornices so that we can have a perfect powder day.

The Wasatch Powder Monkeys brand embodies that spirit and the Monkey is coming to the Teva Games to chek out all of the events. The Monkey is also coming with the new SmartCrossbarsTM roof rack system that will revolutionize the way you attach your rack accessories to your ride.

After 7 years of design and experimentation, the Monkey’s SmartCrossbarsTM are ready for your eyes. We think you will really want to see these Monkey Bars while you’re at the Teva Games. The trick will be to find the Monkey. Bring some bananas or anything else that you think may help you succeed in your search. Who is the Wasatch Powder Monkey?

We take our name not from a mythical simian, but from the incredible group of ski patrollers who hit the mountains at sunrise using explosives to intentionally trigger avalanches before the paying public ravenously tracks out every conceivable line. Only a very unique band of adventurers has the skills and passion to strap on a pack stuffed to the gills with explosives and head out on dawn-patrol to “run routes” as they put their lives on the line every storm day so that we can enjoy the fruits of their labors.

What better spirit is there to instill in a company that is dedicated to creating equipment for the outdoor market than that of a Powder Monkey. Their lives literally depend on their gear and WPM is built on the belief that our outdoor products MUST be designed and built to the highest level of excellence.

Just like our ski patrolling namesakes, the Monkey not only likes to push the limit, it is a free spirited soul that loves the outdoor life and respects the planet. Wasatch Powder Monkey Introduction and Core Values

The Wasatch Range is a compact massif that dominates the landscape from the Salt Lake City valley floor. This is home for the Wasatch Powder Monkeys, and we wouldn’t have it any other way. We ride road bikes, access world-class single-track and even backcountry ski tour right out our front doors. We are enthusiasts in every sense of the word, and our obsession with the outdoor lifestyle drives our need for innovative, quality gear to make it easier and faster to get outside and enjoy it more once we’re there.

We’re all about building communities around our mantra that “anytime outside is better than anytime inside.” Ultimately, we know that it’s all about people, whether that means our products, our company, our town, or our causes. We are dedicated to listening, carefully, to our communities and reacting with tangible results and transparency.
